Semester by the Bay

I had the opportunity to attend Semester by the Bay, through the University of Alaska Anchorage: Kachemak Bay Campus, in Homer, Alaska. Throughout this program, I got to make many professional and future colleague connections, along with participating in many research projects, gaining lots of hands-on experience, and having many once in a lifetime experiences.

During my time in this program, I had a 4 month internship with the USFWS, responding to sea otter strandings. I also got the opportunity to volunteer with the Alaska Sealife Center, NOAA's Belugas Count!, and the Alaska Beluga Monitoring Partnership.

I learned many helpful research skills including skeletal articulation, eDNA filtering, water quality monitoring, animal necropsy work, and whale photo ID.
